A Delhi Metro Experience - We The Culprit

Delhi has largest Metro Coverage in the country and is one of the few profit earning metro in world. Almost 60% to 70% of Delhi NCR Population travel in Metro daily. One thing great is that we people have also maintained it, unlike Indian Railways we haven't scratched the seats or broke the windows. Delhi Metro has make us understand the value of Public Property up to some extent.

Today, i was traveling from Badkhal Mor to Noida City Center. I changed the metro at Mandi House for Noida City Center. The train was fully overloaded, merely some place to stand for anyone. Somehow i got myself fixed at somewhere in middle of coach. I had put my bag down in between of my legs and cause one of the hangers for support. I was in condition when i can't make the move of few inches even. This was frustrating but one thing that always have kept me going is that if other lacs of people can do this then why can't me.

Think if it is too much uncomfortable for a 28yrs old guy then how much trouble it can cause to elders or differently able person or a pregnant women. Delhi Metro has fixed one coach in every train for ladies only, no men are allowed there. Even in men's compartments there are few seats fixed for ladies. I am not against it, it is a good thing indeed. There are some seats fixed for elders or differently able or elders. Well, this all is good but my point is people's mentality.

Today, when i got my share of place to stand in mid of coach, i saw three young girls sitting on the seats fixed for ladies. Yes, they have right to sit there and if some man is sitting there then they can ask him to get up. But the thing i noticed was that a elder women and a man of around 60-65yrs age were standing just next to them and none of these young girls offered them seat.

I got more frustrated seeing this, as it was too un-human for me. This is something we call common courtesy. I called the elder women and said her to ask any of girl for the seat, she said that may be the girls are tired and wanna rest. The i did same with elder guy, he replied to me with just smile and started looking somewhere else. That made me realize that how inhuman we have become, if we have privilege of  something, we are not at all willing to help others with it. That old women had same right as of those girls on the seat but women showed  a new level of humanity and girls showed how inhuman we have become today.

It is on us to decide that what kind of person we want to be.
